Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan character is kind of like a less-brooding Batman, or an American James Bond. Tons of actors can take a stab at the character, and since no one ever seems to have managed a definitive take, the revolving door of casting can keep spinning for eternity. With another adventure planned for the star of A Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games and other films, the rumors are starting about who might be qualified to take the role.

Though Ryan Gosling has frequently been mentioned for the role-- he's even on the Jack Ryan Wikipedia page-- Moviehole is suggesting that Aaron Eckhart might be up for the role. We all saw him do the noble good-guy thing in the first half of The Dark Knight, and Moviehole thinks those might be the credentials to get him the job.

"It’s merely a thought at this stage, but he’s a name that keeps popping up in relation to the part of Ryan, so someone over there obviously likes him." Gosling fans shouldn't give up hope just yet, but it's possible they'll be skewing a little older, with a slight touch of sinister, for the next Jack Ryan. You believed in Harvey Dent; will you believe in Jack Ryan, too?
