Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Red-Band Trailer Boasts A Lot Of Gore

The early ads for the upcoming adaptation of the twisted historical fiction novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter revealed wisps of plot and tons of style, brandishing Timur Bekmambetov's slick action aesthetic like its revenge-seeking hero wields his undead-slaying axe. But amidst the dark and smooth soundtrack, these trailers hid much of the horror movie's gore. Now, Twentieth Century Fox gives into fans' blood lust unleashing a red-band trailer that showcases palpable blows, plenty of gore, and even a little flirtatious lady back. Check it out below, courtesy of IGN:

Benjamin Walker (Flags of Our Fathers, Broadway's Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) stars as the United States' 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, a man who not only freed the slaves, but also freed mankind from the tyranny of vampire oppression. Based on Seth Grahame-Smith's cult-adored novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter charts the story of Honest Abe from a frightened boy who learns too soon of the cruelty of vampires to an axe-wielding superhero of sorts, who is president by day and vampire-slayer by night.

Aside from seeing more of the violence and action Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Wanted) has in store, this red-band promo also offers a scintillating look at Rufus Sewell's smug vampire villain Adam. With his deep-set eyes and maddening smirk, Sewell has developed a real talent for play condescending baddies, and it's thrilling to see him score a moment to savor in the trailer. But he is not the only enticing performer Abraham has to offer; also on board is Firefly's Alan Tudyk, The Hurt Locker's Anthony Mackie, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Jimmi Simpson. Of course its premise is absurd, but from the looks of this bloody and bonkers trailer, Bekmambetov and his cast are sinking their teeth in with a ghoulish delight.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens June 22nd.
