Bond 21

It's good idea/bad idea time over at MGM.

The First Lord and Lady of the death of the Bond franchise, Barbara Broccolli and Michael G. Wilson, have made the first official announcement regarding a new Bond movie. It's not all bad news, but then again, Die Another Day seemed a good idea at some point.

First the good news. The 21st James Bond movie will be Casino Royale and will be directed by none other than the man who gave us the last good Bond movie, Martin "Goldeneye" Campbell. That is your good news.

The bad news is those black holes of writing talent Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are back on board which means about 1% (if any) of the script will be taken from Ian Fleming's novel and in place of a plot and some (heaven forbid) spying, lots of gadgets and Die-Hard style explosions will occur. Not really bad news, but more like worrying news is word that David Arnold has promised a "new sound to accompany a new Bond", whatever that means. Terrifying memories of Bill Conti's disco-style Bond score of the early 80s haunt Bond fans the world over so let's hope that means instead he'll do John Barry style interpretations of the title themes instead of the endless rehashings of the over-familiar Bond signature theme he settled on.

So there you have it Bond fans. Do with this news what you will...

And no, no word on casting of the new James Bond yet, except to say - IT WILL NOT BE PIERCE EFFING BROSNAN!
