Thanks to the critical and box office success of Easy A last summer, Sony was extremely high on Emma Stone - high enough to look at her for two of its high profile upcoming projects: one was The Amazing Spider-Man and the other was 21 Jump Street. Stone, of course, ended up taking the part of Gwen Stacy in the webslinger movie, but the lead female role in 21 Jump Street has been empty since. That changes today.

Deadline reports that Brie Larson has landed the lead role of Molly in the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed adaptation of the late 80s television series. Larson joins a cast that already includes Jonah Hill (who also wrote the script), Channing Tatum and Ice Cube. Known for playing evil ex-girlfriend Envy Adams in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Toni Collete's daughter on the Showtime series The United States of Tara, Larson has also had a significant singing career, having previously released the album "Finally Out Of P.E." back in 2005.

Larger details about the project are still being kept under wraps, but one can assume that Larson will play one of the police officers in the department that hires young-looking cops to go undercover in high schools. The film is currently scheduled to be released March 16th next year and will go into production later this year.
