Taking place last Friday just before the Hall H panel brought the house down (you can read Eric's live blog for the full scoop on that), The Amazing Spider-Man press conference, with cast members Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans as well as the director Marc Webb and executive producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, was very entertaining, if not that informative. As expected most of the questions flew at Andrew Garfield, the next face of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but lucky for us Garfield was unbelievably charming, even picking his nose when the audience tried to snap photos of him.

Oh, and they talked about the movie too. Garfield cited Todd MacFarlane's run with the comics plus the new Ultimate Spider-Man as incarnations of the character that inspired him, while Webb admitted he was initially skeptical about rebooting the Spider-Man franchise so soon, which is why Arad said he was the right man for the job. Webb said the central romance between Spidey and Gwen Stacy made the movie an easier transition from his previous film, 500 Days of Summer; as for Gwen Stacy herself, Emma Stone said her chemistry with Andrew Garfield during the first reading was what convinced her to do the film.

By now you've probably seen the teaser trailer for the film, which ends with an extended sequence of swinging through New York City from Spidey's POV-- a sequence that Webb says will absolutely be part of the finished film. He said he felt that shooting Spider-Man's POV was perfect for the 3D experience and would put the audience right in Spidey's shoes. Lastly, they were asked if this Spider-Man would be joining the rest of the Marvel universe, namely The Avengers, but Avi Arad put an end to that notion with a simple and definitive no.

Watch the full video to see how charming and funny Andrew Garfield is, and to get a great sense of Marc Webb's vision for The Amazing Spider-Man. The Amazing Spider-Man swings (sorry) into theaters July 3, 2012.
