Diary of a Wimpy Kid director Thor Freudenthal isn't back for the sequel, Rodrick Rules, which hits theaters on March 25. Happily, he's absent because he's moving on to even bigger things, again making a film for 20th Century Fox. According to Deadline he's been brought on board to direct Scavengers, an original script by Chris Baldi about three brothers collecting their inheritance from their father by going on a scavenger hunt he left for them.

Given that the brothers are described as estranged, and the scavenger hunt "brings them back to many of the childhood experiences they shared with their father," Freudenthal seems to be moving on to directing adults this time, a logical step forward for anyone who directs a successful children's film (Diary of a Wimpy Kid made $75 million worldwide off a minuscule budget). That's a lot of success in a short period for the guy who made his Hollywood directing debut in 2009 with Hotel for Dogs.
