Emma Stone Has Some Crazy Ideas About Her Future In The Amazing Spider-Man Franchise

You never forget your first love. Which helps explain why Spider-Man fans – the ones who started reading the hero’s comics early on – never really got over the deep crush Peter Parker had on his initial girlfriend, Gwen Stacy.

Marc Webb’s decision to go with Gwen over Mary Jane Watson in his rebooted Spidey story, The Amazing Spider-Man, led to rampant speculation that we one day might be able to see Gwen’s saga played out on the big screen. Of course, that hope also led to all sorts of problems.

So many of those issues fell to poor Emma Stone, cast in the roll of Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb’s first Spider-Man film and now its sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. How do you speak, in depth, about the character you have been hired to play when almost anything you say about her can be considered a spoiler? On the first press tour for The Amazing Spider-Man, Stone seemed handcuffed by the studio. On this go around, she was able to speak more freely about Gwen’s impact on Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), and on the developing series, as a whole. We held these interview clips with Emma Stone because she talks candidly about Gwen Stacy, which means SPOILERS. Stop reading now if you haven’t yet seen The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and don’t want to be spoiled.

We start with a question about how much Stone knew about her character’s fate, and if it affected her decision to agree to play Gwen Stacy in the first place.

My 10-year-old son, P.J., loved so many of the scenes with Emma Stone, but wanted to know which ones she most enjoyed filming.

And in this final question, P.J. asked Emma Stone what she really wanted to bring from The Amazing Spider-Man to its sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2. One of the greatest things a journalist can get during a junket is a legitimate "That’s a good question" from a star. So to see P.J. get one from Emma Stone is one of the highlights of my professional career. And by the end of this answer, she had completely charmed the both of us.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 currently is in theaters.
