If you've been following the site for the better part of the last week you know that the Sundance Film Festival is in full swing down in Park City, Utah. In operation since 1978 with the great Robert Redford serving as the chairperson, the festival has done incredible things for the independent movie industry. It's only right that the trailer for Redford's next directorial outing come out now.

Yahoo! has posted the first look at The Conspirator, which tells the true story of Mary Surratt, the one person put on trial for conspiracy to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln. As you'll see from the trailer, the film's cast is ridiculous, with Robin Wright, James McAvoy, Tom Wilkinson, Evan Rachel Wood and Kevin Kline front-lining, but the movie also stars Danny Huston, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Alexis Bledel, Colm Meany, Norman Reedus, Toby Kebbell, James Badge Dale and a host of others.

Check out the trailer below or in HD over on Yahoo!

While I'm hesitant to get my hopes up too high (these kind of star-studded event films are prone to disaster), I must say that this looks great. There's most certainly a story to be told here and the drama looks like its been ratcheted up to 11. Redford certainly has some winners under his belt, having previously made Ordinary People and Quiz Show, but this looks like the film that will help us forget the disappointing Lions for Lambs.
