Piece by piece, director Paul Feig is revealing the equipment that will be used by his four female Ghostbusters in the upcoming comedy of the same name. Yesterday, it was suits. Today, it’s proton packs, with the hashtag #WhatYouGonnaShoot?
Let’s just say, if you are a massive Ghostbusters fan, and you are dying for the new entry in the spooktacular cinematic series, you should probably be following Paul Feig on Twitter, because he’s hard at work on the movie, and is happy to share details like this. While we haven’t yet seen official photos of the ladies in action – or even in character – Feig appears to be building toward something potentially bigger. Maybe we’ll see the firehouse headquarters, if he in fact decides to bring that back to the franchise. Perhaps he could show us a trap? We could even see the Ghostbusters’ official car, Ecto-1 (though not the original, as that’s in pretty bad shape these days). Feig just showed us the revamped costumes that the four new Ghostbusters will don:
So yeah, with each new photo, this new Ghostbusters becomes that more real. Few of us would have believed this, after years – decades – of delays behind the scenes seemed to prevent the future of the two-movie series. It’s no secret that original Ghostbuster Dan Aykroyd was fighting very hard to reunite the band for one more adventure. But Bill Murray dragged his feet, and then we lost Harold Ramis. Little by little, the idea of passing the torch to an all-female team gathered momentum, and now Feig is officially underway.
The new Ghostbusters team will be made up of funny women Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. The first two have a history with Feig, having worked with him on the mit movies Bridesmaids, The Heat and this summer’s Spy. McKinnon and Jones have been cutting their teeth on SNL, and bring different dynamics to the team. Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, at the moment, has cast one other role that we know of. Chris Hemsworth will play the ladies’ secretary, in a further bit of gender role reversal.
Ghostbusters is aiming for a July 22, 2016 release date. Keep following us (and Feig) for constant updates on the reboot. And ladies? Remember not to cross those streams.
