Ghostbusters Is Filming, And We Have The First Good Look

Whether you like it or not, the new Ghostbusters reboot is officially up and running! Shooting has started in Boston, and we've already gotten three good sources that come together to give us a really good look at just what's being filmed. Brace yourselves folks, because what we're seeing and hearing look a bit familiar to the Ghostbusters fans in the office, and we have a feeling you're going to recognize the scene being filmed below as well!

That first clip comes courtesy of Entertainment Tonight, who premiered the first look on this evening's broadcast, and already the clues are beginning to show a picture of what to expect from the Ghostbusters reboot. In this first look, we see Kristen Wiig in what looks like a bit of a dated costume - which is either a personality quirk of her character, or indicative of a flashback scene that takes Wiig's character back to the 80's. We're inclined to believe the latter, as further photographic evidence captured on set sheds some further light on what, and who, are on set.

In addition to the video, two eager fans on Instagram have captured further evidence of the Ghostbusters shoot, including our first look at Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon in their respective costumes (though the view is a bit obscured). Check that out next... As you'll see in the photo below, an Instagram user captured a look at the actresses as well as director Paul Feig on set (McKinnon is falsely said to be Kristen Wiig in the caption).

You can catch more of Melissa McCarthy's time on set in the Instagram video on the next page... You have to look fast because this looks like it was captured from a moving car. If you pause it at the right time, you can see her standing in costume underneath an umbrella.

Reviewing the three pieces of media covering today's Ghostbusters shoot, as well as the script spy report from yesterday's news scoop we reported, we have an idea what they might be shooting in Boston. Judging by the tip that Kristen Wiig's character is "laughed out of academia," as well as the collegiate look that the old high school has taken on, this is starting to sound like a scene lifted directly from the original 1984 version of Ghostbusters. That scene is none other than Ray and Peter's infamous decision to become Ghostbusters, after they too have been kicked out of the halls of education. You can watch that scene below for reference.

It's interesting that despite Paul Feig's insistence that he's making his own Ghostbusters movie from whole cloth, he's chosen to open the shoot with a scene that looks vaguely identical to a beat from the original film. Whether it's a cute call back, or a direct copy of the original's origin scene modernized for today, is yet to be seen. What we can say for sure is that the Ghostbusters reboot is officially on the way. The road to July 22, 2016 has begun, and we'll be reporting every step of the way!
