In 2002, New York City receptionist Julie Powell decided to change her life by pulling a strange kind of stunt-- she would cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking over the course of a year, and she'd blog about it. The result was one of the first blogs to develop a major following, then the memoir, Julie & Julia. Now Nora Ephron is directing a movie version, in which Amy Adams plays Powell and the one, the only Meryl Streep steps in as Julia Child, whose story is intertwined with Powell's as both women, 50 years apart, struggle to write and cook and hold their marriages together.

The movie is funny, touching and romantic, an excellent way to spend two hours in air conditioning-- so long as you can go out for a delicious French meal afterward. And if you're in New York City next Monday, August 3, you have a chance to see it for free! We've got 10 pairs of tickets-- 20 total-- to give away to our readers, who will attend a special screening of Julie & Julia at a Manhattan theater next Monday.
