When one thinks about spy thrillers, the obvious names that pop up are James Bond, Jason Bourne and Jack Ryan. These movies are typically filled with fast cars, fancy gadgets, and highly stylized action that always ends with the hero triumphing over evil. Tomas Alfredson's Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, however, appears to be a completely different kind of film. Starring Gary Oldman as a protagonist past retirement, the story centers on a hunt for a mole in MI-6, but seems to be much more methodical than action-packed. But don't take my word for it. Check out a new featurette about the film that was released via the film's official website.

Every time I watch any footage from Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy I have to remind myself that Gary Oldman is the same guy who played the over-the-top sadistic cop in The Professional and the white Rasta pimp in True Romance. The film premiered just a couple days ago at the Venice Film Festival and was the subject of much critical lauding, some already saying that this might be Oldman's year to win his first Oscar. Guess we'll have to wait and see on December 9th.
