Godzilla Launches All Out Assault With International Footage, IMAX Poster

Since Comic Con last year, we’ve been getting a steady stream of posters that have slowly unveiled the look and feel of Gareth Edwards’ modern take on Godzilla. From an artistic rendering of the creature’s shape to posters that focused on the size and scale of the creature, we’ve been primed for monster action for almost a year. We’re now entering the home stretch, and Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures is making sure it’s using every weapon it has to promote what they hope will be an international blockbuster. Today is a good day to be a Godzilla fan.

Thanks to IMAX, we have another new, more complete look at the iconic monster’s new face.

Godzilla IMAX

It must be noted that the posters for Godzilla have to be some of the most artistic promotional tools ever crafted for a film of its kind. With a cast like this one, it’s hard not to feature at least one or two cast members prominently. Yet the marketing team understands the basic truth that even the horrific 1998 film understood: when you’re selling a Godzilla movie, you have to sell the monster first. Included with the poster was an official blurb from IMAX themselves, promoting the large format release:

The IMAX release of Godzilla will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of An IMAX 3D Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

While the posters go to work on selling the monster properly, the trailers and TV spots have been working the human angle to a high degree of effectiveness. To further their case, we have not only an international trailer to share with you, but we also have a TV spot – both aimed at the film’s native Japanese market. First, let’s look at the International trailer:

While we’ve still got a good bead on the destructive action the film promises, the trailer and the TV spot (located below) show off more of the emotional toll of the film. The Bryan Cranston character, as well as the Aaron Taylor-Johnson character, are both shown connecting with their loved ones more than the Domestic trailer ever did, as well as some new Ken Watanabe footage. In other words, there’s more "aww" and less shock. (The Extended Look trailer still holds the record though. Seriously, that scream when Bryan Cranston seals off the reactor is heartbreaking.)

After 16 years of waiting, it looks like we’re finally going to have a Godzilla flick that manages to bring back the deadly serious spirit of the original. The film wreaks havoc in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters near you on May 16th from Warner Bros. and Legendary. Advanced tickets are on sale now, so for more information and to purchase tickets, you should visit the official IMAX website.
