Remember when they rewrote Tom Cruise’s role in Salt for Angelina Jolie? That movie turned out to be passable, but I was pretty red faced about it at the time. How can you just change pronouns alter a few scenes and plop in a woman? It’s still hard for me to grasp. This casting switcharoo? Not so much.

A few weeks ago, Halle Berry pulled out of the romantic comedy New Year’s Eve because of lingering problems in her child custody case. She was replaced by Katherine Heigl, but now that the court system has worked through her issues, she’s back on board in another role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll play a nurse in a slightly smaller role than the one she had before.

Berry may be on a bit of a downswing lately, but she’s still a very talented actress that should find herself once again near the top of the female lead pecking order. New Year’s Eve probably won’t help too much, but hopefully the next part will.
