Less than two months ago you couldn't go to a film website without hearing mention of Chloe Moretz, and with good reason. Her performance as the pre-teen vigilante Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass was a truly astounding and mature performance from an actress who only reached her teens four months ago. Now she's gearing up to play yet other child who learns how to grow up quick.

Variety reports that Moretz has landed the lead role in Hick, based on the novel by Andrea Portes. In the film, she will play Luli, a 13-year-old girl from Nebraska who, after both her parents abandon her, decides to trek to Las Vegas with nothing more than a Smith and Wesson .45. The story takes some seriously dark turns as she hitchhikes her way across the country, meeting some horrible characters along the way. Directed by Derick Martini, filming is scheduled to begin later this year.

I was so impressed by Moretz's performance in Kick-Ass that from now on I'll watch her in anything, but this seems like a story that probably shouldn't be filmed. Some truly horrific events happen as Luli makes her way to Sin City and it likely borders on the unfilmable. When this movie gets a release date, prepare for some controversy.
