How's this for the most anticipated, yet most expected press release of the day? We reported weeks ago that Paramount was planning to release Star Trek in IMAX next May, based on some info we got from First Showing. And now the studio has confirmed it-- received a press release from the IMAX corporation announcing that Star Trek will be released in both regular and IMAX theaters.

The press release featured the usual boilerplate text about how mind-blowingly great IMAX is, including some choice words from director J.J. Abrams: ' "I'm thrilled that audiences will be able to experience this new, epic world of Star Trek - with an incredible cast and mind-blowing visual effects - on what is, obviously, the most remarkable film format in the world."

From this point on, with The Dark Knight rolling in all the money it made from IMAX screens, it will be unusual for a major blockbuster not to be released on IMAX, especially one as effects laden as Star Trek. Having seen parts of the movie on a regular-sized movie screen, I'm confident that the IMAX experience will be more than worth it.
