Though the film isn't due out until September, a few weeks ago I was invited to a screening of the film 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anjelica Huston. After the credits began to roll, I was certain that I had just watched one of the best films that will be released in 2011. Utterly real, heartbreaking, hilarious and filled with incredible performances, I began to wish that the film was a summer release just because it would allow me it again sooner. While I'll likely still have to wait a few more months before I get to see it again, at the very least I can watch the trailer over and over again.

Directed by Jonathan Levine, the story centers on Adam (Gordon-Levitt), a young man living a great life. He has a job that he's passionate about, works with his best friend (Rogen) and has a stunningly beautiful girlfriend (Howard). Then he goes to the doctor and finds out that he has a rare for of spinal cancer that has left him with a 50% chance of survival. This world totally rocked by the news, not only does he have to deal with the effects of his disease, but also how it affects everyone in his life.

I'm actually not allowed to write a review of the film just yet (otherwise this article would be about 1000 words longer), but let's talk about what we saw in the trailer, shall we? What I really loved about the film was that it was never cut and dry, and was always open to both comedic and dramatic shifts, which I think was captured quite well in the preview. The movie completely understands that even with a debilitating illness life isn't over and there are lighter moments. While this might upset some people, the truth is that that's reality. Feel free to watch this trailer over and over again and trust me when I say that 50/50 is a must-see.
