In a summer that's been defined so far by disappointments and bombs, you can forgive me for maybe being irrationally excited about Knight and Day. It may turn out to be a standard issue action comedy romp, but the previews so far have looked good, and what can I say, I grew up in the 90s-- Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz will always have a special place in my heart. Apparently I'm not the only one with high hopes for the movie-- the movie's release date has been pushed up by two days, to June 23.

Knight and Day will be going head-to-head with the Adam Sandler/Chris Rock comedy Grown-Ups that weekend, and the Wednesday release will give it a slight head start, as explained by Fox domestic distribution president Bruce Snyder: "It gives us a little bit of a jump on the weekend and the opportunity to get word-of-mouth going. We want to let people know how wonderful this picture is."Both movies will have to make hay while the sun shines, so to speak, since the next weekend sees the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, meaning everyone will either be seeing that movie or avoiding the theaters entirely to get away from the packs of screaming tweens. Knight and Day and Grown Ups will probably be competing for similar audience looking for unchallenging escapism, so it might be interesting to see how the two-day head start and reviews affect this box office battle.
