Over the past few weeks we've seen a bunch of photos leak from the set of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. In addition to giving us a better look at the new Superman suit and our first shots of Kent Farm, the pictures have also raised some questions, namely, "Is Michael Shannon wearing a motion capture suit while playing General Zod?" We've seen the suit from a couple of angles, but due to distance and low resolution it's been hard to tell if the man walking around in the gray suit is Shannon. Now, however, it's been confirmed.
Speaking with Moviefone, Shannon revealed that General Zod will have a CGI suit in Man of Steel. Describing how he feels about the costume that he wears on set, the actor said, "It's one of the most humiliating garments that exists in the known universe, yes. It's very tight. It has a variety of different colors and shapes on it and it makes you feel like you're the court jester." What's even funnier is that Shannon actually explicitly asked Snyder before production began not to put him in a motion capture suit and Snyder agreed that they wouldn't. That changed when he got to set. Said Shannon,
I was like, 'It's going to be really hard for me to be intimidating if I have to wear one of those silly suits.' [Snyder] said, 'I totally understand.' Then I showed up and he's like, 'Dude, I swear to God, it's going to be so bad ass when we done. Trust me, it's going to be wicked.' And, you know, people understand and you get used to it. The first day, you feel like you're getting rushed by a fraternity... and then it wears off the next day. Because I'm not the only one wearing one – there are other people wearing them, too.I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this one. While the project will have a ton of time for post-production work - the film isn't scheduled to be released until June 14, 2013 - it didn't exactly work out perfectly for Green Lantern. Then again, the biggest problem with Lantern was the mask, and unless they change the General Zod design drastically, that won't happen in Man of Steel.
