The story of Jeff Buckley is a rather tragic one. The son of singer-songwriter Tim Buckley, Jeff showed an incredible amount of promise as a musician himself, cutting a studio album with Columbia Records, but saw his life tragically cut short at the age of 30 when he accidentally drowned in the Mississippi River. He will long be remembered for his album, “Grace,” and his cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” but now a film has been made to commemorate his memory as well.

The first trailer for Greetings From Tim Buckley, which was directed and co-written by Daniel Algrant, has arrived online. The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, stars Penn Badgley as Jeff Buckley as well as Imogen Poots, William Sadler and Ben Rosenfield and you can watch the preview below.

The film will focus on the early years of Buckley’s life and his time before becoming a famous musician in his own right, and leads up to his performance at his father’s tribute concert in 1991 which helped launch his career. The film hasn’t been able to secure distribution yet, but hopefully it will be picked up soon and brought to a theater near you.
