Horror movies are known for their signature, seemingly unkillable, villains. During the golden age of horror, we were given mostly human psychopaths who would go around killing babysitters and camp counselors for a variety of personal reasons. Then things changed in the 80’s with the inception of extraterrestrial creatures which would unrelentingly tear through the human protagonists. One of those terrifying forces is The Predator. The Predator is known for its terrifying appearance, its skill in successfully hunting other species for sport, as well as its crossover films with the Xenomorphs from the Alien films.

In 2014, it was announced that a new entry in the Predator franchise would be in the works. It now appears that development is moving forward more aggressively as the fourth film, called The Predator, has set a release date of March 2, 2018.

Earlier this month, a teaser image was released via Predator’s official facebook page. After seeing fan response and excitement for a new entry into the Predator franchise, the release date has been announced presumably to continue the hype that surrounds The Predator.

The Predator will be written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker. Shane Black is rumored to be directing the project, as he has been the most vocal and involved individual in the development of the fourth Predator film.

As far as the content of The Predator, Shane Black has insisted that the fourth film will not be a reboot. Rather than beginning a brand new story, Black is intending to write The Predator so that it fits properly into the mythology of the original trilogy. This is particularly exciting for fans of the originals, as the current trend of rebooting classic movies and film can be a bit repetitive.

The Predator franchise was introduced to audiences with 1987’s Predator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film revolved around a special forces team who are on a mission to rescue hostages. While they are on a mission of their own, they are unknowingly being hunted by the Predator. The extraterrestrial is equipped with a variety of equipment and weapons, which make him a seemingly unstoppable killing force who easily destroys Schwarzenegger’s group of soldiers. The Predator would receive another two sequels, before being expanded into the 2 part Alien Vs. Predator film. Since then, The Predator has been further expanded through video game appearances. In addition to appearing alongside an Alien in their companion game, he has most recently appeared as a downloadable character in Mortal Kombat X.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as more information regarding The Predator becomes public.
