Slowly but surely, the return of the Predator is continuing to make it’s way to the screen. The newest entry in the franchise, simply titled The Predator, has a director in Shane Black, a screenplay written by Black and Fred Dekker, and a release date, of March 2, 2018. What it does not have is actors to be in the film. However, that appears to be changing as one man, Curtis Jackson, aka, 50 Cent, is telling people that he’s on board to fight the monster.
The rapper/actor has made comments to two different sources that he’ll be part of The Predator when it begins filming. First, he told Sirius XM radio that he was going to be doing more feature films, and name dropped Predator has one by name. Then, in a second interview with Miami radio station 99 Jamz he said:
I’m working on some new projects. You heard of the movie Predator? I might be a part of that project this summer.
If we take 50 Cent at his word, it means that we not only have the name of the first person who'll be in The Predator, but we also know when production will be starting. If they’re looking to begin filming this summer, as 50 Cent has already agreed to be on board, it likely means that other major cast members have also been approached, but they’re simply keeping it quiet at the moment.
The only other potential casting news we have is that Arnold Schwarzenegger had said previously that he would be having lunch with Shane Black to discuss The Predator "sometime soon" (he made the comments last month). If the two can come to agreement we expect to see Arnold make some sort of appearance but whether he’ll be reprising his role from the first film, in a major part, or simply be making some sort of cameo is unknown.
50 Cent has worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger before, in 2013’s Escape Plan which co-starred Sylvester Stallone. We envision 50 Cent will be part of the team that taken on the Predator in the film, he’s done his share of action movies and certainly has the look for it. Having said that, we really don’t have a lot of detail as to what the story of The Predator will be, so anything is still possible here. Secretly, we have hopes the film will be a direct sequel to the original, and that 50 Cent’s characters’ name is Dillon.
What do you think of the first piece of casting news for The Predator? Is this a good start? Who else would you like to see join the team?
