The career trajectory of Ryan Phillippe has always confused me. A talented actor who has taken roles in both venerable and popular - from Flags of Our Fathers and Crash to I Know What You Did Last Summer and Cruel Intentions - his career has never really taken off (none of his films have ever grossed more than $80 million domestically). The guy keeps plugging away, however, and has now landed another project.

Variety reports that Phillippe and actress Jenna Dewan Tatum have joined the cast of Set Up alongside Bruce Willis and 50 Cent. Directed by renowned stuntman Mike Gunther, the movie is described as a "heist actioner" in which a group of friends get caught up in massive diamond robbery. Neither actors' roles are specified, though it's believed that Phillipe is taking over a role that Paul Walker was circling. The project begins filming this week in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The project only coming to our attention last month, it's hard to get a read on the film. Details are incredibly slim and Gunther, who also co-wrote the script, is practically an unknown. Considering it's a heist film though, all we can really do is hope that it's more like Reservoir Dogs and Heat and less like Takers or Armored.
