Second Explosive Sabotage Trailer Is Almost Exactly The Same As The First

Usually when a high profile release puts out a second trailer, it’s evident that someone involved in the film’s marketing took the time to make sure it has a personality all on its own and doesn’t just retread all the same footage and dialogue as the first one. That is not at all the case with this second preview for David Ayer’s bullet-seeping Sabotage, which is nearly identical to our first look at the film last month. Obviously it’s not unheard of for trailers to appear similar, but this is kind of ridiculous; it’s like they made an international version and just forgot to add the subtitles. But I guess when a trailer involves Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington and Joe Manganiello emptying magazines and exploding things, there really isn’t much of an impetus to move towards something different.

One of the few changes here is perhaps the most telling about what kind of a film Sabotage is. Whereas the first trailer features just one gun being cocked before one last-second gun burst, this new trailer ends on six guns being cocked before said gun-burst. Six guns! I fully expect for the next theatrical poster to just feature a gun with the words "gun noise" written under it. As for other differences, we get a few alternate shots of Terrance Howard and Manganiello and the beginning cuts out Schwarzenegger’s awkward small talk.

It’s both a shame and a blessing, I guess. While it’d be great to see some more footage, I guess it’s best to be surprised by everything when actually watching the film. Not that there will be many surprises hidden behind all the rubble and dead bodies.

For Sabotage, Schwarzenegger is "Breacher" Wharton, a DEA task force leader with a focus on taking down drug cartels. After celebrating a huge bust, members of the team start showing up dead as one cartel begins exacting revenge. Because a huge chunk of confiscated money goes missing, the good guys aren’t on their side either. But there’s no mystery that can’t be shot at and blown up, so that’s how they get down to business.

Luckily, it’s a great cast of badasses doing the damage. Beyond the already mentioned actors, the film also stars Harold Perrineau, Max Martini, Mireille Enos, a nearly unrecognizable Josh Holloway, and Olivia Williams, who speaks in what will undoubtedly be in the running for "Worst Accent of 2014." Listen to it and more in the samey first first trailer below, and check out Sabotage in theaters on April 11, 2014. But wear your bulletproof vest, just in case.
