Last night, while watching Louie on FX, I caught the TV spot for Our Idiot Brother that you'll see below, in which Paul Rudd's character, among other things, admits to his parole officer that he smoked pot with a neighbor and pretends that a juice box straw is in fact his penis. It's goofy and a little raunchy but not really beyond the pale, especially in the context of a TV show in which Louis CK constantly makes jokes about his balls. But as it turns out, this TV spot was deemed too raunchy by ABC, which refused to air it. The Weinstein Company, knowing a good publicity opportunity when they see it, immediately sent out a press release with links to the "banned" trailer. You know you're intrigued, so you may as well watch it below.

As you can read in my review, I'm no real fan of Our Idiot Brother, which features yet another great performance from Paul Rudd-- an actor who can claim a lot of great ones-- but isn't really that interesting otherwise. But opening in a weekend that's also offering up Colombiana and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, it still might be the best bet given all the awesome actors involved-- Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, Zooey Deschanel and Adam Scott, just to name a few.

As for the banned commercial thing, this seems more like a Weinstein Company publicity stunt than any kind of free speech issue, though it's always annoying to see the major networks constantly living in fear of the angry people who will call them and say they're bringing down society's morals. ABC apparently thinks this ad for Our Idiot Brother is worse than this? That's just terrible judgment.

If you're looking for something even raunchier from Our Idiot Brother-- which is, after all, rated R and proud of it-- there's also a new red band trailer that you can watch below. The movie is in theaters this weekend.
