Serious Depression In First Stills From Michael Sheen's Beautiful Boy

Looking at the first pictures posted by TIFF from Shawn Ku's Beautiful Boy, you quickly get the sense that this isn't going to be a film about sunshine and double rainbows. Each still has either Michael Sheen or Maria Bello in an extreme state of grief, be it crying in each other's arms or sitting in quiet contemplation. Looking at the film's plot synopsis, however, makes you quickly understand why.

Set to premier at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, Sheen and Bello star as parents of a college student who has committed a mass shooting before killing himself. Real cheery stuff. Ku's first feature, the film also stars Moon Bloodgood, Alan Tudyk, and Kyle Gallner.
