Shane Acker Is Open To A 9 Sequel

Shane Acker’s 9 hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but, naturally, sequel talk is abuzz. During a recent interview with First Showing, Acker hinted at the possibility of a sequel.

He explained, “I think everyone's poised to see if the films works, if it finds an audience and makes some money. I think everyone is chomping at the bit to see if it does, and if it does, then maybe there will be an opportunity to make a sequel. I think it would be a great world to revisit.” Whether or not Acker addressed the likelihood of making a second film, the issue would be inevitable if the film makes a decent buck. It’s the Hollywood formula; if a movie makes money, you consider a sequel.

Even if another movie is approved it’ll be quite some time before any progress is made. Acker is busy pitching another animated film of a darker nature that he called an “edgier kind of material.” He expressed concern about the nature of material saying “because they've got their certain brand or the certain things they do and it's risky, because it's still a really expensive medium to be working in.” Perhaps studios will be willing to take a risk on Acker’s new material if 9 hits it big when it’s released on September 9th.
