Thanos Probably Not The Villain In Thor 2, Says Chris Hemsworth

Based on the search terms that have been leading people to this site, we weren't the only ones who got to the end of The Avengers and were left asking, "Wait, who's that alien guy?" Luckily our own Eric Eisenberg explained it all for us, and now we know that alien dude was Thanos, the insane alien being who's one of the most dangerous villains in the Avengers universe. The mid-credits tag left most of us assuming that Thanos would be the villain in The Avengers 2, which is already in development, but what about the Marvel movies that are coming first? Iron Man 3 is already in production with Ben Kinglsey set to play the villain, but both Thor 2 and Captain America 2 remain up in the air-- could Thanos pop up there to lay the groundwork for The Avengers 2, the way Loki's villainy in Thor affected The Avengers?

Well, probably not. MTV caught up with Chris Hemsworth to talk about his upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, and they came right out and asked it Thanos would show up in Thor 2-- the movie's taking place in space, after all, and that's where Thanos lives, so it seems like a logical question to me. Hemsworth has not yet read the script, but he sounded pretty confident in shooting down that Thanos theory: ""We need a bigger fish," he said, while calling Thanos as a villain "Too easy."

It's hard to know what Hemsworth means by "bigger fish," given Thanos's terrifying reputation, but we likely won't know for a while. All that's certain is that Natalie Portman is returning to play his love interest, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Hopkins will be back as Loki and Odin respectively, and Hiddleston thinks Loki can be redeemed in the sequel, though that might just be what you always hope when you play a crazy villain. Marvel nerds, feel free to jump in and explain exactly which bigger fish Hemsworth is referring to, or maybe why Thanos will be in the movie after all and he has no idea what he's talking about. The movie is set for release November 15, 2013, so we've got a while to hash this out.
