Total Recall Will Find Its Way On To Blu-ray In December

After a total disappointment at the U.S. box office, the remake of Total Recall did manage to make its budget back at the foreign box office, bringing in almost 178 million in total funds. The film wasn’t a complete disaster, but I am a little surprised Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is putting together such a nice Blu-ray set for the release. If you did enjoy the flick, it will hit homes with all of the bells and whistles on December 18.

There were some missteps in Len Wiseman’s remake of Total Recall. The gritty “the future is tough” look is really starting to get old, and the film sort of took all of the ridiculous fun out of the first film and made the plot even more action-based (Did I mention the cars in this movie totally remind me of Minority Report?). I am pleased to report Colin Farrell is memorable—as usual—but I would probably take Ahnold, any day.

Despite Total Recall not being as good as it could have or should have been, the set itself looks like it might remedy any qualms people may have had with the movie. The Blu-ray and DVD 3-Disc combo pack will come with the most features, including a gag reel, a ton of featurettes, and the extended director’s cut. The director’s cut looks awesome. There are twenty extra minutes to the film, which will hopefully slow the plot down and break things up a bit, and the extended cut will even feature new plot twists and an alternate ending. Regular Blu-ray and DVD copies will also be available, but if you did like the film, you’ll certainly get more out of it with the combo pack. You can check out the full list of extras, below.
