There were rumors earlier this month that we would soon be hearing an official announcement of the Jurassic Park trilogy coming to Blu-ray, and today that word has come. Universal Studios Home Entertainment has set an October 25th street date for the Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy, which will package Blu-ray versions of all three films and more than two hours of new bonus features. The movies have been digitally restored and upgraded to 7.1 sound, which should be good news for movie fans and bad news for neighbors on the other side of thin apartment walls.
Don't fret if you haven't upgraded to Blu-ray: the set will also be available on DVD, although it's questionable whether that's an upgrade worth making if you already own the films and aren't opting for the high-def versions. On the other end of the spectrum, Universal is also offering a Limited Edition Blu-Ray Trilogy Gift Set of the Jurassic Park films, which adds a T-rex statue and an inconveniently sized box.
While Blu-ray versions of the Jurassic Park movies were inevitable, this announcement does throw more fuel on the flame of the news that Spielberg is toying with the idea of a fourth Jurassic Park flick. Whether that's a good idea or not is up for debate, but if this release is part of a larger plan to test the waters for a new sequel, I'll take my Blu-ray copy of Jurassic Park and declare it a win.
Check out the artwork and specs below. In addition to the new bonus content, it looks like the set will also include plenty of previously released material. You can click beauty shot of the limited edition to embiggen it.
