Vince Vaughn appears to be ready to join his Dodgeball co-star Ben Stiller in the high-concept sci-fi comedy Neighborhood Watch, which will be directed by The Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer for 20th Century Fox.

Vaughn and Stiller wouldn’t immediately come to mind if you asked me to single out successful comedic collaborators from the last decade. In fact, I’d tend to pair each of them with Owen Wilson thanks to films like Wedding Crashers (with Vaughn) and Starsky & Hutch. But the two have appeared together as ensemble cast mates in some seriously funny films including Anchorman and Zoolander, so there’s hope that their collective sense of humor has honed in on another winning project.

It certainly sounds different. The treatment, which The Hollywood Reporter says was penned by frequent collaborators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, follows bored, suburban housewives who agree to form a neighborhood watch because it allows them some time away from their families. But a problem arises when the men actually stumble on a legitimate threat that puts our entire planet in danger.

It sounds like it could be The ‘Burbs meets War of the Worlds, only far more unpredictable, with Rogen and Goldberg writing the script. The two previously penned The Green Hornet, Pineapple Express and Superbad, all three of which starred Rogen in some form. Does that mean there’s a place for him in Watch? Couldn’t he just write himself a part? And add one for Wilson, as well. It wouldn’t feel right seeing Vaughn and Stiller on screen without their bleach-blonde, laconic partner.
