War of the Worlds

Dreamworks Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for next year’s War of the Worlds.Being that it’s a teaser trailer, I didn’t expect much. In that regard, Dreamworks delivered.

A man with a spooky whisper talks ominously about inhabitants of Earth taking too much pride in their strength. Then spooky whisper man tells us another has been watching from a far and is envious of our world. While spooky whisper man is talking, we see generic shots of different cities around the world. Finally, we see the beginning battle from a distance. The shot of the nighttime sky reflecting the explosions was a nifty shot but that’s all we get. Hell, I’m not even sure I saw Tom Cruise anywhere. If I did, it was an over the shoulder shot at the end.

I like the idea about this movie, but I really need Spielberg to convince me that turning this into a modern day invasion is better than setting it in turn of the century England. And the slogan “They’re already here” isn’t cutting it.

War of the Worlds invades theatres Summer 2005. Ha! That’s why I make the big bucks. The ability to use obvious jokes in my endings! I am SMRT!
