Watch Harrison Ford Unveil The New Star Wars Section Of Disneyland

From the day that it was announced that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm, it was clear that the company had plans to make the world of Star Wars a large part of their business plan going forward. Last night we got our first look at the plans for the new Star Wars Land coming to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Check out Harrison Ford’s introduction to the new areas located in the happiest places on earth.

It was announced several months ago that Disney would be beginning some of their biggest construction projects in years in order to create not simply new Star Wars rides, but entire new lands within Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida. As the clip, provided by Disneyland Experience, from last night’s big Disneyland 60 event shows, the centerpiece of the new area will be a Millennium Falcon based attraction that plans to give the riders some form of control, which would add a new level of interactivity that we haven’t usually seen in a theme park ride. In addition to the attraction, the land will offer shops and restaurants that continue with the Star Wars theme. The mention of an upscale dinner club means there will be a new place to eat that you’ll certainly need to make reservations for when you’re planning your next trip to the park.

The concept art for the new Star Wars land is interesting. The planet it depicts doesn’t look like anything we’ve seen before. It’s possible that the "planet" that the theme parks will be depicting will be something new and unique to the new land. It’s also possible that the rides are planning for the future and this is something that we will see more of in Episode VIII or beyond. Construction on the new area began last month at Disneyland and is expected to begin shortly at Disney World. There’s no scheduled opening date yet, but two years, just in time for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga, should be about right. You can take a gander at some concept art of the park below:

Star Wars has been a major part of both of the Disney parks for years, as both currently include the Star Tours ride - which was upgraded in the last few years to include locations and characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Disneyland has also seen the classic Space Mountain ride reskinned into a Star Wars theme and has been temporarily renamed Hyperspace Mountain.
