We Need To Talk About Kevin Director Gets Financing For Sci-Fi Version Of Moby Dick

We've seen a number of classic stories reformated and changed to fit different genres in recent years, be it the story of Snow White changing into an action/adventure movie with Snow White and the Huntsman or Homer's "The Odyssey" being morphed into a southern tale in the Coen brothers' O Brother, Where Art Thou? Now Lynne Ramsay, the director behind last year's We Need To Talk About Kevin, is planning an adaptation of the classic Herman Melville story "Moby Dick," only her version will be set in space.

THR reports that Scott Pictures has decided to come aboard and both produce and finance the film, which will be titled Mobius. The trade says the movie is a "psychological action thriller," about a spaceship captain who goes on a mission of revenge looking for an alien, risking both his and his crew's lives. The script is being co-written by Ramsay and her Kevin co-writer Rory Kinnear.

This is actually the second time that the director has signed a deal with Scott Pictures founder Scott Steindorff, as she will also be working with him on her film Jane's Got A Gun, which Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender are already attached to. While the time table on Mobius is unknown, production on the western is currently looking to start shooting some time in late January.

Ramsay is currently experiencing a complete career rejuvenation, as she just recently came off a decade-long break. After making Morvern Caller in 2002, the filmmaker didn't return to the director's chair until last year's We Need To Talk About Kevin. It sounds like she has some ambitious ideas that she is interested in executing, so hopefully she'll stick around for a while.
