Even better news from the world of The Avengers. Yesterday we found out that Joss Whedon is directing and today comes word that he’s writing the movie as well. Or rather, re-writing.

When Variety finally got around to reporting the Whedon directing Avengers story which first surface on IESB two weeks ago, they added this tidbit: “Whedon will also rework Zak Penn's script.”

This is a huge upgrade. We’ve just gone from the guy who wrote such turds as Elektra and X-Men: The Last Stand in Penn, to the guy who wrote Toy Story, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Serenity in Joss Whedon. And while we’re on the subject, his recently written script for the upcoming movie Cabin in the Woods is pretty good too. Whedon has done well as a director, but his biggest strength is as a writer, so it’s brilliant news that he’ll be able to put his own personal touch on the script for Avengers. Marvel’s future has never looked brighter.
