Just a day after the first poster showed up online, the first trailer for the Judd Apatow-produced, female-driven comedy Bridesmaids has debuted. Available in high-res at Apple.com and also in the player below, it's our first look at the trailer that, if there is any justice in the world, will finally settle the debate about whether or not women can be funny.

Starring Kristen Wiig as a woman thrown into the ridiculous circus that is being a bridesmaid, the film is packed with some the funniest women acting today-- Maya Rudolph as the bride, with The Office's Ellie Kemper, Rose Byrne, an almost unrecognizable Mike & Molly's Melissa McCarthy and Wendi McLendon-Covey rounding out the bridal party. I admit, this trailer doesn't exactly blow my mind-- there's a fart joke, a handful of sex jokes and a few pratfalls in. But the thing it, it really is kind of revolutionary to see women doing it, and to see the promise of an entire movie dominated by female comedians-- yes, Jon Hamm appears, but from the looks of it he's just a one-night stand.

I've still got very, very high hopes for Bridesmaids, particularly since it's Apatow's first shot at shining his very bright spotlight on female comics. For more on the film check it out in our Blend Film Database. The movie opens May 13.
