Because Hugh Jackman's co-stars from X-Men Origins: Wolverine likely won't be showing up in the sequel, the cast of The Wolverine is pretty damn empty. Jackman, of course, will be back to play the titular mutant, James Mangold is attached to direct, and Christopher McQuarrie wrote the script (with a rewrite by Mark Bomback), but even with production scheduled to start up shortly the IMDb page for the movie is mostly blank. Sources over at Superhero Hype, however, are reporting that this will change shortly.
People behind the production have informed the site that Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima are all now set to be a part of the next Wolverine adventure. The actors will fit into the Japanese backdrop of the film, which is based on the origin story by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. Sanada, who has played roles in movies like Rush Hour 3 and The Last Samurai, will play a character named Shingen; Yamanouchi will be Yashida, and Okamoto and Fukushima will star as Mariko and Yukio. Sources also say that while a great deal of the production will take place in Australia, the film will also do some shooting in Japan. The Wolverine will be released on July 26, 2013 and cameras will start to roll next month.
Because things are scheduled to start up soon you can probably expect a flood of casting reports for The Wolverine to pour in over the next few weeks. Stay tuned to Cinema Blend for all the latest info!
