The Two Marvel Movies Likely Bringing Footage To Comic-Con This Summer

When it comes to showing off upcoming superhero movies...scratch that, really any property with an established fan base or pop culture appeal, San Diego Comic-Com is the prime destination. The convention is kicking off next month, but there hasn't been a lot of news regarding what, if anything, Marvel is bringing to the table. Fortunately for fans of the MCU, it now looks like Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be screening footage during the convention.

This all started when Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson "hinted" on Twitter that Doctor Strange would have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con, and included a picture of some banners advertising his November mystical blockbuster.

Okay, that's pretty cut and dry, but then Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn responded back saying he may have to "come see" Derrickson there, a.k.a. show some of what his 2017 sequel has to offer.

While we wouldn't go so far as to call this "official confirmation" that Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be at San Diego Comic-Con, it seems reasonable to assume that Derrickson and Gunn got the go ahead from Marvel and Disney to tease fans. Otherwise, they wouldn't have tweeted anything out in the first place. Regardless, this should be most welcome to attendees who are eager to see a sampling at two of Marvel's most anticipated projects, and it's a safe bet that both will be featured at Hall H. While we're guessing that Doctor Strange will premiere a new trailer (either regular length or extended), the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 material will probably just be some quick scenes that have been shot in Georgia that don't need a lot of post-production work. Whether Marvel releases that footage to public later or keeps it exclusive to attendees is unclear.

Last month, at the same time 20th Century Fox announced that they won't be appearing at San Diego Comic-Con, it was also rumored that Disney was considering not showing up, but if Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will indeed be there, obviously that's not the case. If this were 2017, we would wonder if Marvel and the House of Mouse would skip Comic-Con in favor of showing off these kind of movies at the Disney D23 Expo, like what they did last year. However, that expo happens every two years rather than annually like clockwork, so San Diego Comic-Con is their best place to grab a lot of publicity in 2016.

Doctor Strange will cast its spell on moviegoers on November 4, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will fly into theaters on May 5, 2017.
