What Insidious 4 Might Be About

Insidious 4

Despite having faced her untimely demise at the end of Insidious, Lin Shaye's Elise Rainier has gone on to be in every Insidious movie, making her a staple of the series. After getting her own prequel in the form of Insidious: Chapter 3, Shaye's demonologist will return in Insidious: Chapter 4, which is confirmed as being another prequel. The story will further bridge the gap between the original film while we learn more about how Elise Rainer came to be the person she is.

In an interview with Daily Dead, the legendary scream queen Lin Shaye dished on some plot details for Insidious: Chapter 4. The film will indeed be another prequel, chronicling the adventures of Elise Rainer and her two sidekicks, Specs and Tucker, as they investigate "the Further" prior to the first Insidious. While Insidious: Chapter 3 explained how Elise left retirement and resumed her fight against the darkness, Chapter 4 will go even further back and explore her beginnings. According to Shaye, the movie picks up after Chapter 3 and viewers will meet Elise's family back in her hometown of New Mexico. She journeys there to "find the bad guy that's been haunting her," and it'll be scary on levels fans won't expect.

More of Elise is certainly never a bad thing when it comes to this horror franchise. She's the lynchpin of the entire series and has risen to essentially be its main character. Learning more about her background is only natural and it'll be interesting to see how her family comes into play. Are they psychically inclined as well or is there relationship with Elise more strained?

When we last left Elise, she sensed a demonic presence in her room, and the Lipstick Faced Demon appeared out the shadows behind her. One would assume that the familiar demon will once again play a factor in the events of the film, either being the antagonist himself or simply being another force in the shadows.

Leigh Whannell has written every film in the Insidious series, and has one again returned to pen Chapter 4. Taking over director duties this time around is Adam Robitel. Robitel's previous work includes The Taking of Deborah Logan, another possession horror flick. The first two previous entries were directed by James Wan, who has been working on the solo Aquaman movie.

Insidious: Chapter 4 is scheduled for a release date of October 20, 2017, so stick with CinemaBlend for any and all future updates.
