After years of anxiously waiting, fans will finally see a decent Spider-Man movie set firmly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe later this summer. Tom Holland's Peter Parker is currently gearing up to take center stage in Spider-Man: Homecoming and all eyes are on him to become the ultimate silver screen Wall Crawler. That said, there's still an enormous learning curve to becoming the quintessential Web Head, and Peter will spend quite a bit of Homecoming figuring out how to use all of the gadgets hidden within his suit. Holland explained:
Luckily enough, my best friend in the movie, Ned Leeds, is a complete gamer. And using the Dell Inspiron 15 we were able to tap into the suit and find out some of its cool new exciting features.
So it sounds like Peter Parker and his good friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) will spend much of the film figuring out the secrets and tricks to the Spider-Man suit. Tom Holland's recent comments at CES 2017 (via Finder.com) seemingly indicate that Tony Stark hasn't entirely filled him in on all of the bells and whistles that come with the outfit. To properly figure it out, so he will have to tinker and toy with the classic red and blue suit as the story wears on. Shameless Dell product placement aside, that seems to promise some awesome moments in the upcoming solo film.
Although Tom Holland doesn't go into detail, I still can't even begin to express how refreshing it is to see a Spider-Man where Peter doesn't make his suit. As much as we love Sam Raimi's (and to a lesser extent, Marc Webb's) Spider-Man franchise, the fact that earlier versions of Spider-Man made their suits always felt somewhat odd. He's a kid from Queens with very few real resources, so having a benefactor like Tony Stark provide him with the tools that he will need in the field feels like a more appropriate storytelling device.
If Peter Parker's Homecoming suit comes equipped with all sorts of fancy gadgets, then Homecoming may feature a very particular (and endlessly fun) element that has been missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the first Iron Man hit theaters in 2008: a tinkering montage. Half the fun of watching Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark become Iron Man involved seeing him figure out the intricacies of the suit. How does he make it fly? How does he prevent ice build up? What weapons will he install? Those were fantastic scenes that made him feel like a more plausible superhero, and it seems that Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to bring that idea back in full force.
Besides, we may even see some badass scenes like this if Homecoming spends enough time letting Peter play with his suit:
