The Marvel Star Who Should Join The xXx Franchise Next, According To DJ Caruso

The latest entry in the xXx film franchise is really more of a team-up film than a solo venture for Vin Diesel. Ensemble casts like this always like to add new members and director DJ Caruso already has his eye on one possible new member of the team. The director of xXx: Return of Xander Cage recently sat down with us and revealed one actor that he'd love to bring in for a potential sequel, Thor's Chris Hemsworth.

I want to see a Hemsworth, or someone like that. I think to bring someone like Chris, or someone like that into this franchise and to kind of give it that weight, too, would just be something that I think would really be interesting and fun.

As a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Chris Hemsworth is a globally recognizable actor, not unlike Vin Diesel himself. While the rest of the new film's motley crew was far from unknown, it appears that DJ Caruso would like to add a face that would bring some more gravity to the franchise. He tells CinemaBlend's own Conner Schwerdtfeger that Hemsworth would accomplish this.

Chris Hemsworth

It's interesting to hear that DJ Caruso might be looking for somebody to add "weight" to the xXx series. While the view of Return of Xander Cage is mixed among critics, even those who enjoyed the film would not claim it had much in the way of weight to it. In fact, it's utter lack of even attempting to take itself seriously was obviously the point, whether or not you enjoyed that fact. Whether Caruso wants would be interested in making a future film more serious, or if he's more interested in taking an actor like Chris Hemsworth and putting him in over the top ridiculous action scenes, is unclear.

Whether or not there will be another movie in the series still remains to be seen. xXx: Return of Xander Cage opened in second place over the weekend, only bringing in half of what first place Split was able to do. The film has performed fairly well overseas so in it's first week it has nearly brought in enough to cover the reported $85 million production budget globally, but while the film may end up being profitable, it certainly isn't looking like it's going to reach blockbuster territory. Still, prior to release, the studio seemed interested in going forward with another, and they usually know what to expect when it comes to the box office. After all, it took the Fast & Furious franchise a few tries to find its footing. If xXx makes enough to make it worthwhile to give it another shot, we could see this one evolve into something that audiences will find equally appealing, maybe adding "weight" to it will be the next thing to try.
