Watch The Baywatch Super Bowl Trailer Right Now

Some reboots can be seen coming a mile away, while others come from out of nowhere. The upcoming reimagining of Baywatch is the latter. The hilarious-looking revival of the classic, beach-based series already looks like an absolute blast, and it's guaranteed to be one of the funniest movies of the summer. A brand new trailer for the upcoming Dwayne Johnson-fronted reboot was released during the Super Bowl (complete with an appearance by Patriots' star Rob Gronkowski), and it seriously looks like we might have the next 21 Jump Street on our hands. Check out the trailer below to see for yourself.

Although it doesn't feature footage from the final cut of the film, the Super Bowl promo for the upcoming Baywatch reboot pretty much definitively proves that you can sell a movie on the charisma of a guy like Dwayne Johnson alone. In one minute, the muscle-bound superstar takes Rob Gronkowski through his Baywatch method and shows him the proper method for performing the iconic slow motion run down the hallway of a hotel. It's undeniably silly, but it also perfectly captures the tone and style that Baywatch appears to have aimed for. Besides, who doesn't love watching Gronk make an absolute ass out of himself?

The real beauty of a movie like Baywatch is the fact that it has basically infinite potential for comedy. Although the film takes very clear inspiration from the original Baywatch regarding its core premise, the reboot is apparently striking out in an entirely different direction to bring us more outlandish humor and ridiculous action. Dwayne Johnson seems to have become the go-to guy for that style of reboot, as the upcoming Jumanji film will do something very similar by operating in the same universe as the original, while also striking a wildly different tone.

Classic reboots of TV properties such as Baywatch have become incredibly common and popular in recent years. The overwhelming success of 21 Jump Street in 2012 (and 22 Jump Street in 2014) proved that just about any property can be profitable if handled properly, and Baywatch certainly looks and feels like the next logical evolution of that idea. If the film ultimately proves successful with mainstream audiences, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility to imagine that we could see several more films featuring Dwayne Johnson saving beautiful people on beautiful beaches. It's a simple recipe for success, but it's a recipe nonetheless.

It doesn't hurt that the Baywatch reboot has already enlisted a lot of major talent to bolster the rest of its cast. In addition to Dwayne Johnson, the project has also brought Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra on board. From top to bottom, that's an insanely talented ensemble, and everything that we have already seen from Baywatch promises a hell of a lot of fun.

We will bring you any and all relevant updates pertaining to the upcoming reboot of Baywatch as more information related to the project becomes available to us. Baywatch will splash its way into theaters later this year on May 26!
