Would Arnold Schwarzenegger Do Another Superhero Movie? Here's What He Said

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Batman & Robin

Arnold Schwarzenegger's last go round in the comic book movie machine did not go well. He played the ice-pun heavy Mr. Freeze in what is widely considered to be the worst comic book movie to date. So, would he ever be willing to put himself back on display in that sort of film? In a recent interview, Schwarzenegger says that he'd have no problem making another superhero movie as long as it was well written and the fans enjoyed it. The actor says...

Absolutely! I think all of those movies, if they're written well, they're entertaining. If it's Batman or Batman and Robin, or X-Men or Spider-Man -- all of them. If they're written well, they have a great life. People enjoy them, and you can see the grosses that they make worldwide. So, yes, of course I would.

It would be completely understandable if Arnold Schwarzenegger was at least a little gunshy when it came to being in a comic book movie again. The wrath of the fans over Batman & Robin has really never entirely died away. However, in this interview with Fandango, the actor clearly has no reservations about playing another Batman villain or really any other character within a comic book universe.

To be fair, comic book movies have come a long way. They are certainly written much better than they were even just a few years ago. The writing was one of the major problems that Batman & Robin had. Even if you didn't mind the lighter tone of Joel Schumacher's Batman as compared to that of Tim Burton, the dialogue written for Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze was just too much. Virtually every line the actor spoke was an ice-related pun. It certainly left most audiences cold.

So much has changed in the 20 years since Batman & Robin that in addition to the fact that comic book movies have taken on at least a bit more realism, an Arnold Schwarzenegger who is 20 years older would likely be considered for very different comic book movie roles than he was back then. While recent films have shown that Arnold is still capable of action, he might not be the guy getting his hands dirty with the likes of Superman or Captain America. Still, there's plenty of great roles he could play.

Who would you like to see Arnold Schwarzenegger become in either the MCU or the DCEU? Give us your suggestions in the comments.
