6 Wonder Woman Rumors That Turned Out To Be Totally False

Warning: spoilers ahead for Wonder Woman! Don't read any further if you have not seen Diana Prince's first solo adventure!

It's once again a great time to be a fan of DC Comics and DC heroes. Wonder Woman has officially debuted in theaters, and Patty Jenkins' superhero epic seems to have effectively turned Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) into one of the coolest mainstream heroes in recent memory. We had a feeling that Wonder Woman would be good, but the film has defied all of our expectations to become legitimately great.

While plenty of rumors associated with Wonder Woman certainly panned out as expected, many others turned out to be complete rubbish. Those are the ones that we will focus on today. We've gone through the film and picked out the six most significant rumors related to the film that turned out to be completely false in the end. First and foremost, let's get started with the early reports that one of the world's (literally) biggest action stars was supposed to appear in Wonder Woman.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Mr. Freeze

Arnold Schwarzenegger Had A Cameo

Before Wonder Woman's release, the social media activity of Patty Jenkins and Arnold Schwarzenegger led people to assume that the former bodybuilder would appear in the movie somehow. Specifically, some fans even theorized that the action legend would portray Zeus in a sequence involving the gods of Mount Olympus. Of course, as we now know, that was not the case. That said, it's not hard to understand why people would start to make assumptions. Schwarzenegger has not been shy about the fact that he would be willing to return to the superhero genre to redeem himself for Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin, and a movie like Wonder Woman could've represented an opportunity to reenter the DC fold.

Bruce Wayne Suicide Squad

Bruce Wayne Makes An Appearance

Last year a series of set photos debuted online suggesting the very real possibility that Ben Affleck would appear in Wonder Woman as Bruce Wayne. This cameo became even more likely when the Batman actor showed up in David Ayer's Suicide Squad for a mid-credits cameo. All eyes were on Bruce Wayne to become the Nick Fury of the DCEU with yet another appearance in Wonder Woman, but the film came and went without a proper glimpse at The Caped Crusader. The closest thing we get is a Wayne Enterprises armored car and some fancy letterhead. In the end, it's probably for the best that Wayne didn't show up in Wonder Woman; the film is self-contained, and that's one of its greatest strengths.

Ares DC Comics

Diana Is Ares' Daughter

The decision to choose Ares (David Thewlis) as the villain for the first Wonder Woman movie made sense from a creative point of view. He's one of Diana's most formidable opponents, and he has a deep connection with her on a personal level. However, early rumors associated with the film suggested a familial relationship that ultimately didn't pan out. Specifically, it was rumored early on that Ares was actually Diana's father. These rumors possessed a kernel of truth (he's her brother in this incarnation of the DC universe), but Wonder Woman clearly opted to steer away from a cliché "Darth Vader" style twist for something a bit more straightforward. Looking back, it was definitely the right call for the movie to make.

Justice League Aquaman

Atlantis Would Appear

Themyscira is a mystical land hidden far away from the watchful eyes of mortals, but it's not the only DC realm to fit that description. Justice League will serve as the proper introduction for Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) this November, but many fans theorized that Wonder Woman would somehow plant the seeds for Atlantis to show up in some capacity. The decision definitely would've made sense, as Themyscira and Atlantis have interacted with (and battled) each other numerous times in some iconic DC storylines. Sadly, we're going to have to wait a little while longer to see this bizarre underwater culture, as Wonder Woman makes no mention of Aquaman, Mera (Amber Heard) or any other characters who call the seven seas their home.

Justice League Motherbox

Wonder Woman Directly Leads Into Justice League

Another possibility that was consistently thrown around by fans before the release of Wonder Woman was the idea that Diana's solo movie would somehow lead directly into the events of Zack Snyder's Justice League. The rationale for this belief is fairly straightforward: because the Amazons have been on Earth far longer than most DC characters, the possibility of them somehow coming into contact with one of Darkseid's hidden Mother Boxes seemed incredibly feasible. However, the final cut of Wonder Woman only contains tenuous connections to the rest of the DCEU, and it seems that anything involving the creation of DC's most iconic superhero team will have to wait until Justice League properly premieres later this year on November 17.

said taghmaoui Sameer

Saïd Taghmaoui Was Secretly Playing Andre Blanc-Dumont

One of the most interesting rumors associated with Wonder Woman was the possibility that Saïd Taghmaoui's Sameer was a classic DC character known as Andre Blanc-Dumont. This theory started with a tweet posted by Taghmaoui featuring the obscure character, and the possibility of such a reveal during Wonder Woman's story got many longtime DC aficionados excited about the possibility that the Blackhawk Squadron may receive a tease at the end of the film. Alas, Wonder Woman wasn't hiding a secret agenda or identity for Taghmaoui. Having said that, we can't say that we're disappointed; Sameer is one of the most charming characters in Wonder Woman, and adding any extra DC dimensions could've compromised the integrity of this protagonist.
