That Time Chadwick Boseman's Dad Tried To Make Him Stop Filming A Scene

42 baseball slide

Back before he signed on to the Marvel Universe playing Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman had already broken out on the big screen in 42, a movie about famous baseball player Jackie Robinson. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chadwick Boseman explained the exact moment he knew it might be difficult to let his parents watch him film a movie on set. In fact, his dad went so far as to try and stop a 42 scene from filming, as the actor recounted...

My dad, when we were shooting 42. There was a scene we were doing, we were stealing home and I had to jump over the catcher and slide. And we did it like 15 times. He's sitting right by the director and fuming. He's like, 'You can't do that no more, you can't do that, you're gonna be hurting in your body.' He said it to me and the director. Bryan Helgeland, he comes over and says, 'I think we're done. You're dad said you can't do it any more.'

I didn't really think about 42 really being a super action-oriented film when I watched it. While baseball's a contact sport, it isn't as intense as something like football or hockey. Still, filming the same slide over and over again could totally wreak havoc on someone's body, and it's nice to see that Chadwick Boseman's dad had his back. The actor seemed pretty amused about the whole thing while telling the story on Kimmel's late night program, and you can check out the rest of what he had to say, below.

Despite his dad's vocal comments on the set, Chadwick Boseman did reveal to Jimmy Kimmel that he still invited his parents onto the set of Avengers: Infinity War, which means they probably know a secret or two about who will be appearing in the upcoming film. On that note, Boseman has already revealed he shot a few scenes with Mark Ruffalo, who is set to pop up again as The Hulk in the upcoming film. If you want to check out who else is popping up in the highly anticipated Marvel flick, please take a look at our full cast guide.

While 42 is currently available on DVD and Digital, you can catch, Chadwick Boseman is set to star in the upcoming movie Marshall, out in October. He's also be in Black Panther in February of 2018, and Avengers: Infinity War after that.
