9 Amazing Things Shown In The Star Wars: The Last Jedi Video

One of the biggest movies of the year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was almost guaranteed to have a massive presence at the D23 Expo this weekend. The Mouse House sure as hell didn't disappoint, not only wheeling out some of the big time cast members, but also premiering a new behind-the-scenes video of the highly anticipated sequel. There was plenty of new footage to be glimpsed in the almost three minutes long video, and tons of teases for fans to decipher. Luckily, we're here to help you with that part.

Because there's just so much to gawk at in the behind-the-scenes video, we've assembled this handy list of some the best moments from the footage. In addition to seeing our best looks yet at new characters played by Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro, there are also some awesome action beats. Take a look at the 9 best moments from the new Last Jedi video in no particular order.

Laura Dern filming with Carrie fisher

First Shot Of Laura Dern

Jurassic Park's Laura Dern will be playing Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, a politician with quite the sense of style. We've already seen Dern's pink colored character in some screenshots, but this is our first time seeing her on film. Apparently, Holdo is something of a rival to Leia, whose politics and ambition differ greatly from her.

Benicio Del Toro Star wars

First Shot of Benicio Del Toro

Benicio Del Toro must not have gotten his fill of space in Guardians of the Galaxy. His character in The Last Jedi is only known as DJ (may or may not be his real name) and he is described as a "shifty" character with uncertain alliances. He can be glimpsed for the first time on footage in the behind-the-scenes video.

Rey lightsaber

Rey Posing With Her Lightsaber

Rey (Daisy Ridley) will begin her training under Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi, and she wouldn't be a real Jedi if she couldn't strike a pose! The above image more than captures the spirit of Luke Skywalker, with Rey wearing the hood and similar colors to Luke. It's also a classic Star Wars pose for Jedi Knights. Rey can also be seen running with her lightsaber, which was spotted in the first trailer as well.

Star Wars puffin alien

These Cute Little Puffin Aliens

The new video featured a LOT of new aliens, most of which are created entirely with practical effects. One such species are these cute little aliens that vaguely look like a cross between a puffin and a Furby. This unnamed species is rumored to inhabit Ahch-To, the planet Luke Skywalker has been living on and can be seen at the end of Star War: The Force Awakens. They supposedly see him as their protector, but they haven't given that honor to Rey just yet.

Billie Lourd

Billie Lourd

Billie Lourd, the daughter of the late Carrie Fisher, had a cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and she returns here in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Her character can be seen briefly in the new video, and it was very sweet for her to be included, given the tragedy that struck her family.

Rey rehearsing

Daisy Ridley Rehearsing To Fight Three People At Once

It looks The Last Jedi is going to have some serious lightsaber action. Daisy Ridley can be seen in the new teaser rehearsing to fight THREE people at once! The attacker's identities are obviously a mystery, but could the be the Knights of Ren, who were only briefly alluded to in the previous movie. Either way, Luke Skywalker knows how to train a Jedi.

Rose and Fin in disguise

Fin And Rose Undercover

Fin will be spending a lot of time with new character Rose Tico, played by Kelly Marie Tran, in the new movie. The two of them will reportedly be off on a mission for the Resistance, and it looks like one that might require them to go undercover. The two can be spotted in what looks like First Order uniforms.

X-Wings go boom

X-Wings Go Boom

The First Order isn't taken their loss at the end of The Force Awakens lying down. A brief and awesome shot of a hanger filled with X-Wings can be seen getting blown to smithereens. I'm fairly certain this involves a scene with Poe from the first trailer, and it looks like the First Order as brought the fight home to the Resistance.

Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher

It's very heartwarming that the final image of the behind-the-scenes footage is of Carrie Fisher. The actress sadly passed away this past December, and there has been no shortage of support from Star Wars fans. The final lines of the video are of her saying "It's about family, and that's what's so powerful about it."

And just because it's an extremely good watch, here's the video just one more time, so you can see all the previous awesome moments strung together.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017, and I literally can't wait.
