Apparently Christopher McDonald Brought Up Playing Shooter McGavin During His DUI Arrest

Christopher McDonald Shooter McGavin Happy Gilmore

At some point or another, we have all said things in an attempt to impress people or get out of trouble. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. On that note, we have learned that Happy Gilmore actor Christopher McDonald recently brought up the fact that he played golf legend Shooter McGavin during his recent DUI arrest, but it seemed that his role in one of Adam Sandler's best movies didn't stop the cops from taking him in.

TMZ reports that Christopher McDonald was arrested for drunk driving near Lake Arrowhead, California on Saturday night. When stopped by police, the actor reportedly told the officers that he was in Happy Gilmore -- a fun piece of trivia that apparently won him no favorable treatment. Prior to being stopped by the police, eyewitness accounts claimed that the actor drove his car off of the freeway and plowed through a gas meter at a local grocery store, though no injuries were reported after this.

This is actually Christopher McDonald's second DUI in five years. He was also arrested in 2013 during a similar incident in which he blew a .15 BAC -- i.e., almost twice the legal limit in California. Ironically enough, McDonald also made headlines earlier this year for becoming one of several public figures to provide guidance to Tiger Woods after the real golf star's own DUI and assuring him that he would land on his feet after seeking professional help.

Christopher McDonald has continued to remain active as a prolific actor in the years since he became a comedy icon as Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore. He has roughly 190 credits to his name as an actor, including several projects currently in various stages of production and development. As of right now, it remains unclear how his latest DUI arrest may impact any those projects.

That said, for many longtime fans, Christopher McDonald's role as Shooter McGavin will always remain one of his most beloved performances. His take on the stuck-up, elitist golf star has arguably become one of the most popular fan-favorite characters from any Adam Sandler movie, and he has even transcended the film to become a popular figure in the world of golf.

In fact, on some golf course somewhere in America, I would be willing to bet that someone is celebrating a successful putt in classic Shooter fashion right now.
