10 Big Movies Heading To Theaters In November

Justice League Flash Batman Wonder Woman looking up danger

We had a pretty good October at the movies, but the training wheels are about to come off, as November is looking to turn up the heat with both tentpole and prestige films for folks of all stripes to enjoy. Now keep in mind, Hollywood scheduling is fickle, and some of these movies may be subject to change and/or opening in limited areas before rolling out wide. That being said, you're going to love what next month has in store for you!

Bad Moms Christmas Mila Kunis Kristen Bell Kathryn Hahn Christmas tree theft

A Bad Moms Christmas

If you're a truly successful franchise-to-be, it's almost guaranteed that you'll get a Christmas special. A Bad Moms Christmas looks like it took that knowledge to the bank, as almost immediately after the success of Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn's first R-rated romp through maternity, this holiday flavored glass of spiked punch was announced. This time out, the titular moms will be facing their greatest weakness and our greatest chance at sequel laughter: their own moms!

Opening: Wednesday, November 1

Thor: Ragnarok Chris Hemsworth thinking things out

Thor: Ragnarok

It's Marvel time, folks, and Thor: Ragnarok is the latest attempt at magic from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian prince returning for his third solo film, he'll team up with Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, and yes, Tom Hiddleston's Loki, to take on the biggest threat to the Nine Realms. That threat, of course, is Cate Blanchett's Hela, the MCU's incarnation of Death itself. Director Taika Waititi's Marvel Studios thrill ride has already racked up some impressive buzz and a good amount of cash, sending it into this weekend with its head held high.

Opening: Friday, November 3

Daddy's Home 2 Mark Wahlberg Will Ferrell waiting at the airport

Daddy's Home 2

Speaking of Christmas, there are two parentally-themed yuletide films heading to theaters before Thanksgiving, as Daddy's Home 2 is looking for some magic in a snowy sequel of its own. Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell team up with grand-dads Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to make it a holiday we'll never forget, and that alone sounds pretty damned funny. But adding John Cena as an extra dose of fatherly mayhem? That's worth its weight in gold.

Opening: Friday, November 10

Murder on the Orient Express Kenneth Branagh frozen genius

Murder on the Orient Express

The original Murder on the Orient Express is a tough act to follow, with Albert Finney's portrayal as Hercule Poirot ranking pretty high with moviegoers. That being said, if there was anyone who could tackle Agatha Christie's famous drama of murder and suspense on the frigid rails, it's certainly actor/director Kenneth Branagh. And he's brought a hell of a cast with him, as everyone from Daisy Ridley and Josh Gad to Judi Dench and Derek Jacobi is involved in the film's star studded lineup. Good luck trying to find the culprit in this caper.

Opening: Friday, November 10

Justice League Flash Batman Wonder Woman looking up danger

Justice League

The DC Extended Universe has been knocked down, but as the prophets of old once foresaw, it continues to get back up again. This time, it'll stand on the shoulders of both Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon, as both comic heavyweights are part of Justice League's directorial bench. While the film could be content to cash in on Gal Gadot's success with Wonder Woman, or even just Ben Affleck's stellar portrayal of Batman/Bruce Wayne, this one looks to be a true ensemble piece. Which is great, considering Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher help round out the key team central to this film's chances of victory.

Opening: Friday, November 17

The Star honored donkeys, horses, and doves

The Star

Faith-based films have been slowly, but surely, carving a niche out for themselves in the modern movie market. So naturally, animation was going to find itself in the sights of such a genre, and The Star is looking to take the story of Jesus into a new medium: animated comedy. With a voice cast that boasts such luminaries as Keegan-Michael Key, Tyler Perry, Kelly Clarkson, and Oprah Winfrey, there's enough star power to win over the parents, while the kids will have the eye-popping animation to look forward to.

Opening: Friday, November 17

Wonder Jacob Tremblay Julia Roberts first day of school smiles

Wonder

The Thanksgiving season isn't just about flash and action at the box office, as there's also a selection of films looking for awards glory. But what's November without a heartwarming tale of being kind to one another? Wonder is just that sort of movie, as Jacob Tremblay plays Augie, a boy with a facial deformity that sets him apart from the rest of the kids at school. But though his face doesn't look like anyone else's, his spirit is a triumphant, unbreakable thing. We have a feeling we're going to cry quite a bit at this one.

Opening: Friday, November 17

Roman J. Israel Esq Denzel Washington swamped with paperwork

Roman J. Israel Esq.

Denzel Washington sells almost any movie he's in singlehandedly. But team him up with Nightcrawler writer/director Dan Gilroy, and you have something people are going to buzz about hardcore. If you've been dreaming of such a scenario, Roman J. Israel Esq. is the answer to your prayers, as Washington plays the central lawyer character, who makes a lot of money turning in a criminal that one of his clients took the rap for. The only problem is, that money comes with the attention of the criminal element said crook was involved with, putting Roman in a situation that is anything but a walk in the park.

Opening: Friday, November 17

Darkest Hour Gary Oldman Churchill's salute

Darkest Hour

Gary Oldman: chameleon, charismatic character actor, and gentleman of his craft, has yet to win an Academy Award for Best Actor. Despite his best efforts, the honor has eluded him to the chagrin of himself and his fans. However, Joe Wright's World War II drama Darkest Hour seems to be the greatest chance that Oldman has ever had of breaking that streak, at least since Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Playing Winston Churchill right as he was named Prime Minister, before the outbreak of the war, the veteran thespian just might take the trophy this time. At least, if the advanced buzz is any indication.

Opening: Wednesday, November 22nd

Coco a boy and his dog in the underworld

Coco

Animated film has explored the Hispanic culture's treatment of the boundaries between life and death before, what with Fox's The Book of Life breaking ground in a very similar way to what Disney/Pixar's Coco is trying to do. But there's still plenty different in the Mouse House's story of a young boy, his dog, and a magical guitar that allows him to cross that boundary. With beautiful visuals, a goofy dog sidekick, and a story all about family, Coco could be the hit of Thanksgiving weekend.

Opening: Wednesday, November 22nd
