Wesley Snipes’ Response To Who Should Play Blade In The MCU Will Make Your Day

Although Iron Man arguably ushered in the modern age of superhero cinema back in 2008, Marvel heroes were kicking ass and taking names long before then. One such Marvel character was Blade, a tough-as-nails half-vampire made famous by Wesley Snipes. There has been discussion (mostly among fans) of getting Marvel to reboot Blade for quite some time, and now Snipes seems to think that he's still the man for the job if it ever comes to that. Snipes tweeted:

So if another Blade movie enters development, it looks like Wesley Snipes has no interest in letting the character go from his hands to another. The 55-year-old actor's tweet suggests that he's still willing to don the leather and sunglasses of the badass vampire hunter, and we think it's safe to say that this revelation is going to get fans very excited about the future of the character -- even if nothing is set in stone yet.

If anyone at Marvel Studios decides that this is something worth pursuing, then there would be a few possible directions in which to take Wesely Snipes as Blade. One option would be to retroactively classify the three previous Blade films (or at least one of them), as canon in the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, another option would be to just cast him as a new incarnation of the same character and not even mention the earlier years of his run as Blade. That may seem bizarre, but it's worth mentioning that the X-Men universe did that with Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool -- even poking fun at X-Men Origins: Wolverine -- and the James Bond franchise did the same thing by keeping Judi Dench around as M in Casino Royale.

At this point, the time definitely seems right for another Blade project to start development in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last year, Doctor Strange helped push the series forward when it introduced magic, which means that there's now a framework in place to explore the more supernatural elements that define Blade's world. Beyond that, by bringing a character like Blade into the equation, it could also pave the way for other other vampire characters like Morbius to enter the MCU at some point. Adding Blade to the MCU simply opens up far more doors than it closes, and bringing Wesley Snipes back would be some serious A+ fan service.

We don't know if Wesley Snipes will return to his most iconic role, but we will keep you posted with more Marvel updates as they become available to us. The MCU will continue its rapid expansion next year when Black Panther debuts in theaters on February 16, 2018!
