Some kids just have it coming. That seems to be the message hidden not so subtly within Case 39, a movie in which squinty-eyed Renee Zellweger stars as a social worker who saves the wrong child. She takes a girl away from her abusive parents, only to discover that they were abusing her because she’s the spawn of Satan and everyone in close proximity to her ends up dead, one way or another. For Zellweger’s boyfriend, it’s death by bee-beard. I wonder if child welfare groups will show up to protest it? Nah, they’re probably too busy erasing the word “retard” from our vocabulary.
